Recognized as First Aider I by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, this 16 hour course gives comprehensive instruction in artificial respiration, treatment of choking, control of bleeding, treatment and prevention of shock, immobilization of broken bones, recognition and treatment of heart attack and stroke, one one-rescuer CPR. National ertification from St. John Ambulance, valid for three years is awarded upon successful completion of this course.
STANDARD FIRST AID
(RECERTIFICATION)
This course is available to persons holding a valid STANDARD FIRST AID Certificate and concentrates on review, update and evaluation. Students must prepare in advance for this course by studying the appropriate theory and practicing the necessary skills. National certification, valid for three years is awarded upon completion of this 8 hour course.
EMERGENCY FIRST AID
This 8 hour course provides the minimum level of first aid training required by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. It is recognized as First Aider II. Included in the content of this course are artificial respiration, treatment for choking, control of bleeding, treatment and prevent of shock and one-rescuer CPR. A national certificate, valid for three years, is awarded upon successful completion.
BASIC RESCUER C.P.R. Level 'C'
This is an 8 hour comprehensive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course designed for health care professionals and emergency response personnel. It is also suitable for lifeguards and persons who have a family member with a heart condition. Course content includes artificial respiration, treatment for choking, one and two-rescuer CPR and infant/child CPR. National level C CPR certification, will be award to successful participants.
BASIC RESCUER C.P.R. Level 'C' (Recertification)
While CPR certification does not have an expiry date, regular practice and annual retraining is recommended. The Basic Rescuer recertification includes a practical skills evaluation and a written exam. National level C CPR certification, will be award to successful participants.
OXYGEN ADMINISTRATION
This program is designed to teach the basics of providing supplemental oxygen in respiratory emergencies.. Focus is on recognition and treatment of hypoxia, the equipment required to provide oxygen and safety measures in handling oxygen. Prerequisites include a Standard First Aid certification received within 12 months and a level C CPR certificate received within 6 months. Upon successful completion of this course, a provincial certificate will be issued.
